The entrance is on the Toys R Us side of the plaza. You enter the store into their produce department. The beautiful colors are so welcoming. (I felt like Dorothy when she opened the door in Oz!) They also have a large selection of fresh juices right there too.
As my tour continued, I learned a lot about the history of Fairway. The store started as a small fruit and vegetable stand in 1933. It has certainly evolved over the past 80 years. But they feel that each department still continues with a small shop atmosphere. Departments include butcher shop, seafood, supplements and vitamins, produce, organic produce, locally grown produce, sushi, organic grocery, hot foods, deli, smoked fish, olive oil, charcuterie, cheese, bakery, olives and pickle bars, grocery and coffee. They strive to be the World’s Greatest Food Market by offering unique quality items sold by craftsman and artisans. They pride themselves on being the authority!
All five senses are on overload as you walk through the store, looking a the great signs of each department and thinking about eating the bounty of food. Did you even know that there are over 100 kinds of olive oils? I was quite impressed with their large variety of organic, gluten free and Kosher items.
Fairway has 300 shopping carts and 12 registers. There are three express lanes for 15 items or less. They are very excited that their 15th store is in Lake Grove. As being part of the community, they are happy to support schools, places of worship and civic organizations. These programs will be rolling out in the near future.
Fairway is located at 3200 Middle Country Road in the DSW Plaza. They are opened from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. seven days a week. Check out their grand opening specials at www.fairwaymarket.com
